A Tokyo police officer has been arrested for attempting to buy a computer using a colleague's credit card, police said.
Tatsuo Kawamura, 43, a senior officer at Komatsugawa Police Station, admitted to the charge of attempted fraud.
Kawamura stole a colleague's credit card and tried to use it to purchase a laptop computer, priced around 150,000 yen, at an electronics store in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture, on Feb. 17, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
However, his deception was revealed during a routine credit check.

同僚のクレジットカードを使いパソコンを購入しようとしたとして、警視庁は１６日、小松川署地域課の巡査長、川村辰夫容疑者（４３）＝東京都大田区萩中３＝を詐欺未遂容疑で逮捕した。容疑を認めているという。
調べでは、川村容疑者は今年２月１７日、大阪府泉佐野市内の家電量販店で、以前同じ独身寮に住んでいた警察官のカードを提示。ノートパソコン１台（約１５万円相当）を購入しようとした疑い。川村容疑者はこの日非番だった。クレジット会社から名義の警察官に問い合わせがあり発覚した。
中村格・警務部参事官は「極めて遺憾。捜査を徹底し厳正に対処する」とコメントした。
